Born in Bred in Manchester John became actor after training at the Manchester School of Theatre, and for nearly 20 years worked in theatre, TV and Radio, receiving a Manchester Evening News Best Actor Award in 1997.

In 2001 he became a script editor working with Paul Abbott on ALIBI, a 2 x 90 min drama for ITV before joining Company Pictures as one of the original creative team on SHAMELESS. On series 2, John also wrote an episode.

On Series 3 he was the Producer, for which he received a BAFTA nomination, and for Series 4 and 5 was the Series Producer picking up another BAFTA nomination.  After leaving Shameless, John went on to SKINS, another Company Pictures show, producing Series 4.

In Jan 2011 became Executive Producer for Series at Company looking after Skins series 5 & 6 and Wild at Heart series 6 & 7. He exec produced THE VILLAGE, a six part series for BBC 1 Sunday night by writer Peter Moffat which was nominated for Best Drama Series BAFTA, and THE WHITE QUEEN, also for BBC 1 Sunday night, a ten hour adaptation of the three books by Philippa Gregory and written by Emma Frost about The Wars of The Roses, which was nominated for four Emmy’s including Outstanding Miniseries.

John is now Managing Director of Headstrong Pictures, which is the scripted division forming part of the Shed Media Group.
