CARMEL MORGAN

Carmel has several original projects in development including a comedy drama with Tiger Aspect, and two original projects with Hat Trick Productions.

Leaving behind her previous incarnation as a Granada TV press officer, Carmel served a brief but invaluable apprenticeship on Series Two of THE ROYLE FAMILY.  Following which she cut her writing teeth on Channel 4’s groundbreaking soap, BROOKSIDE, for which she wrote over thirty episodes.

In 2006 she was commissioned by Dawn French to write a stage play.  Starring Dawn French, Alison Moyet and June Watson, SMALLER toured for six weeks before an extended run in the West End.

Along with Cheryl Taylor, Carmel co-created the comedy drama DROP DEAD GORGEOUS for BBC3 – the second series of which won a British Comedy Award (2008) and was nominated for a Broadcast Award (2007).

Her other writing credits include SHAMELESS (Series One, Episode 5) and CORONATION STREET – for which she has written over eighty episodes to date. She was extremely proud to have written an episode for the show’s 50th anniversary week.
